Melbourne Airport (APAM)

Melbourne Airport is responding to increased congestion and futureproofing the airport, by designing a new elevated loop road network. Unsigned Studio partnered with Melbourne Airport in 2018 and has since crafted an extensive series of Community Engagement Films, imagery and interactive experiences.

The studio collaborated closely with the project and engineering and design teams to create content and communications material that accurately portrays the new, complex road system. Furthermore, the studio has been supported by and advised the Melbourne Airport Communications and Engagement team throughout this project to provide guidance and solutions for their engagement needs.

Throughout our lengthy engagement, we have continued to deliver best in class community engagement videos, imagery and graphics. We have produced three long form project benefit films, each focusing on a different area of the project design.

From the films, we were then able to efficiently create additional visual content such as CG renders, diagrams and infographics for online and aerial photomontages of the new infrastructure. All supporting the internal communications team at Melbourne Airport.

As our final and most interactive piece of work for Melbourne Airport we designed and developed a Journeys and Wayfinding Experience. This interactive experienced was powered by Unsigned Studio’s tool siteLab. The interactive simulation was like a video game for the Airport’s stakeholder engagement.

The concept for the tool was to give the user the ability to choose any type of vehicle and it would take the “driver” on the new journey that the type of vehicle would dictate. The interactive Wayfinding and Signage Strategy was incorporated so the user could start to understand the trigger points and the way the signage would change depending on the type of vehicle they were driving. This tool was taken to stakeholder engagement meetings with groups such as the Department of Transport and VicRoads.
